| The Troop was founded in April 1914 by Scoutmaster Miss Olivia Burges, and was affiliated to the Thornbury District. |

The first meeting was held at the Ridge on May 9th, attended by W. Trotman, H. Trotman, P.Marshall, H. Dixon, S. Stock, F. Phelps, and P. Stallard; the boys were instructed in map-reading by Col. Burges. The next week, they were joined by F. Thompson and F. Hillier, forming the Woodpigeon Patrol with P. Marshall as Patrol Leader. W. Trotman and P Marshall has been Scouts before, in the original Yate and Sodbury Troop under SM G. Holberrow. |
| 1st saw the troop attending a District Rally at Tortworth. The Scouts' enthusiasm and Col. and Miss Burges instruction enabled them to take 1st prize in map-reading, and 2nd prizes in signalling and relay racing. Not bad for 3 meetings! The summer continued with a camp at Brean Down, together with other troops. |

The declaration of war in August brought new tasks for the Scouts. They acted as messengers to a regiment quartered in Sodbury. |
